Standard Chickens

Description of
Standard Chickens Standard, or large chickens range in weight from the 4 lb (OLD ENGLISH GAME) hen to the over 13 lb (JERSEY GIANT) rooster. The production varieties (RHODE ISLAND RED, AMERAUCANA and MARAN) have been selectively breed to produce a greater quantity of large eggs per year than the exhibition varieties (COCHIN and POLISH) who lay smaller eggs less frequently. Standard poultry require a larger living space, need bigger nesting boxes and consumer more feed than their bantam (miniature) counterparts.
